FEARS, PHOBIAS AND HYPNOTHERAPY
Just as certain levels of anxiety are important to our human experience, so also is fear. Not all fears are harmful. Many fears are a natural part of our evolution and aid our survival. For instance, it is quite normal to be afraid of life-threatening situations - that fear helps us to stay alive!
However, sometimes fears can develop which have no apparent rational explanation. Some fears make us believe that we are in a life-threatening situation when we know rationally that we are not. Some fears just adversely affect the quality of our life. This can be detrimental to day-to-day functioning and prevent one from fulfilling jobs and ultimately, dreams and ambitions.
To gauge how fear is affecting you in your life ask yourself these questions:
- On a daily basis, how often do you spend thinking about this fear?
- Do you find yourself constantly avoiding certain situations in order to avoid the fear?
