HYPNOSIS & HYPNOTHERAPY
What is Hypnosis?
The state known as hypnosis can be defined as any state where the conscious critical factor of the mind has been by-passed and you are in a state of heightened suggestibility. This state occurs in all individuals naturally, and on a daily basis. Examples of day to day hypnosis are:
- Daydreaming (becoming involved in the reality of a daydream to the point where you have physical and emotional responses is a sign of hypnosis)
- Watching a movie or reading a good book (we often accept fantasies in these two mediums naturally and we are often moved to tears, anger, or happiness based on the story of the movie/book - very rarely when we are entertained does our conscious mind step in and say "this is all nonsense!")
- Advertising (So there you are watching your favourite television program, in a state of hypnosis, and at some point you have come to the conclusion that you really want to eat a burger NOW... hmmm, interesting...)
The fact is hypnosis occurs everyday and to everyone and the process which is used by a hypnotherapist is simply a method which has been formulated to help you move into that state in a formal setting, in the fastest possible way.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the practise of psychotherapy within the state of hypnosis. It is using the state of heightened suggestibility in order to allow an individual to become aware and change their emotional responses. Hypnotherapy essentially allows a direct communication with that part of the mind where most of our presenting complaints lie.
